*This event was held from Wednesday, July 27th to Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at Kotokoto Stage 11 on the 1st floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store.

theme

A pop-up shop will be held in conjunction with the "HANKYU Children's College" hosted by Hankyu Umeda Main Store.
Under the theme of "protecting the environment," collaborative items have been released with NIFREL, a living museum at EXPOCITY in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, and textile designer Masaru Suzuki.

Sustainable initiatives

The interior of the store, based on the blue corporate color of Nifrel and Familia, utilizes materials such as archive fabrics produced during the manufacturing process and unused gift boxes.

Under the supervision of NIFREL, the living museum at EXPOCITY in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, an aquarium exhibit will be created that expresses an ecosystem of living creatures where different species, such as color, sex, and size, respect each other and coexist. We hope that the items and exhibits will provide an opportunity for children to learn about various living creatures.

Masaru Suzuki x familiar

A collaborative item with textile designer Masaru Suzuki.

Familiar ZOO bag

We took orders for the "familiar ZOO bag," which is hand-embroidered and upcycled from archive fabrics that are created during the manufacturing process, such as familiar clothing.
The five creatures that live at Nifrel are depicted with colorful appliqué fabrics. The humorous names that make the most of each creature's individuality are also part of the charm.
- White tigers were born white
・Long legs make them fast runners (Burrowing Owl)
- Believes that appearance is important (Indian peacock)
・The gender will be decided later (clownfish)
・The name comes from their proud tail (ring-tailed lemur)

Upcycled print items

The clothing and bags from past collections, which are full of Familiar's attention to detail, have been hand-printed one by one with animal art designed by Masaru Suzuki.

A message to Mirai Department Store

I think a lot of things have been changing recently. Even in my work, things that were highly valued just a few years ago have suddenly become less so, and things that were completely ignored are now attracting attention. It feels like there's been a major shift in the world's values, rather than trends. The appliqué bag I'm releasing this time, made from leftover fabric (remnants) from making children's clothes, was first created five years ago. At the time, I think I was designing it so that the finished product didn't really feel like it was remnant fabric. This was because I felt that remnant fabric had a rather bad image, but this bag has been designed to have a finish that highlights that. In addition, I will be introducing new items that I've randomly printed on ready-made clothes and bags that were in stock and revived as new products.
Both of these are in line with the idea of "not producing waste as much as possible," but I think that at present, both users and creators only have a positive image of these kinds of movements.
Unlike us adults, whose minds are rigidly bound by past experiences and ways of thinking, children see a variety of values as completely normal. With the new releases, we want children to be free to choose what they like, regardless of color, pattern, or shape, without being bound by gender stereotypes. We believe that barriers in this area no longer exist.
By the way, there is a size barrier, but adults are welcome to join if possible.

Komaruya Sumii × familiar

Founded in 1620, Komaruya Sumii, a Kyoto-based company that preserves traditional Japanese culture through folding fans and folding fans, is now releasing limited edition designs for its signature Kyomaru Uchiwa fan! Two designs are available: the "Born White (White Tiger)" design by Masaru Suzuki, and the "Kuma-chan" design by Familiar.

About Komaruya Sumii

Founded in 1624 (the first year of the Kan'ei era), the Sumii family, who were noble families, received orders from the emperor of the time to make fans, and established "Fukakusa Uchiwa" during the Tensho era (1573-1592). In addition to products such as dance fans, summer fans, and hand towels, the company is also famous for its "Kyomaru Uchiwa" fans, which are personalized with the names of geisha and maiko from Kyoto's five geisha districts. Each generation has had a deep knowledge of the arts, and they also create props for Japanese dance and kabuki. They are passing on what they have inherited from their predecessors to the next generation, spreading Kyoto culture to the world.
