For many people, the first thing they are concerned about when they find out they are pregnant is the mother and child health handbook case.
A maternal and child health handbook case, which holds your precious maternal and child health handbook and medical card, is an item that you will use for longer than you might imagine. Why not find your favorite?
How to choose a maternal and child health handbook case
Where can I get a maternal and child health handbook?
The Maternal and Child Health Handbook is a record of important events for mother and baby. Once pregnancy is confirmed, it will be issued by the city or town where you are registered as a resident. The counter, reception hours, and necessary procedures may vary depending on the municipality. If you are not feeling well, you may be able to have someone else, such as the husband, collect the handbook on your behalf. It's a good idea to check this beforehand. Once you receive your Maternal and Child Health Handbook, you'll feel even more confident that you're pregnant! Be sure to complete any pages you can fill out as soon as possible.
Concerns about maternal and child health handbook cases
What do you put in it?
The maternal and child health handbook case is not just for storing your health record. It's also convenient to store all the documents related to hospital visits, such as vaccination cards issued at the same time, obstetrician-gynecologist appointment cards, and various guides. You should also store a ballpoint pen, which you'll likely find yourself using quite often. If there's a zippered pocket, you can store a USB for recording ultrasounds and a seal so you don't have to worry about losing them. Keeping all your pregnancy and childbirth-related items in one place will give you peace of mind in case you suddenly have to be hospitalized.
Why are there two sizes?
The maternal and child health handbook cases sold at Familia come in several different sizes, even though they are the same design. This is because there are three different sizes of maternal and child health handbooks, depending on the municipality that issues them. If you are purchasing a case before receiving your handbook, please check the size. We recommend purchasing a slightly larger size, as it will store not only the maternal and child health handbook but also other items such as medical cards. Please be careful when giving it as a gift.
Is it a good idea to have a maternal and child health handbook case?
Maternal and child health handbook cases are often first used during pregnancy. They are useful not only during pregnancy, but also after giving birth, making them a very handy tool.
Especially in the first year after giving birth, you'll often get vaccinations, and your hospital visits will increase as your baby experiences various illnesses. There are also more things you need to remember, such as each child's patient card and medical certificate for infants. If your child isn't feeling well, going to the hospital can be hectic. In times like these, if you have all the necessary documents in your maternal and child health handbook case, you can just throw it in your mother's bag and be ready to go! Even if you suddenly need to ask your husband or grandmother to take your baby to the hospital, having them take the maternal and child health handbook case will ensure a smooth visit.
The Maternal and Child Health Handbook contains vaccination records and other items that you will likely use for a longer period of time than you would expect. To keep it safe, we recommend that you have a case that you like.
Voices of senior mothers
- The first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant was a maternal and child health handbook case! It was very useful during pregnancy, but now that I'm raising a child, it's even more useful. It keeps all of my child-related items, such as my ever-growing collection of medical cards and prescription records, in one place. Even if I suddenly have to go to the hospital, I only need to take this case with me, so I can ask my husband or grandmother for help.
- I wanted a Familia Check maternal and child health handbook case, so I bought it after finding out the gender. I still love it. When I was pregnant with my second child, I got a different design. It was a great decision to get a different type so I wouldn't get confused when carrying it. I'd like to give this case as a gift to my child when they grow up in the future.
Kobe City Health and Maternal and Child Health Handbook designed by Familia
We designed the cover and inside art for the Kobe City Maternal and Child Health Handbook, which will be issued by Kobe City in October 2017. In response to the request to "create a handbook design that is unique to Kobe and makes people want to raise their children in Kobe," we expressed the essence of Kobe in the cover and inside designs.

The cover design is inspired by the port city of Kobe, and features a friendly mother and cub bear on a boat, with the charms of Kobe (Kobe Port Tower, mountains, etc.) depicted in the background. The design is created using the same techniques as the denim bags, and is finished with hand embroidery, stitch by stitch.
The inside pages are full-color, colorful, and easy to read, featuring art that sparks conversation, such as flowers, cars, and chicks. The design is fun to write in and to look back on. There are also pages where you can paste photos and write messages along with the growth record.
The maternal and child health handbook is an extremely important book, as it contains information about pregnancy progress at the obstetrician-gynecologist, baby checkups and vaccinations, and records the baby's growth. The design evokes happy times spent with parents and children, and we hope that it will be treasured forever and given to children as a gift when they grow up.
