About Masaru Suzuki
A message to Mirai Department Store
I think a lot of things have been changing recently. Even in my work, things that were highly valued just a few years ago have suddenly become less so, and things that were completely ignored are now attracting attention. It feels like there's been a major shift in the world's values, rather than trends. The appliqué bag I'm releasing this time, made from leftover fabric (remnants) from making children's clothes, was first created five years ago. At the time, I think I was designing it so that the finished product didn't really feel like it was remnant fabric. This was because I felt that remnant fabric had a rather bad image, but this bag has been designed to have a finish that highlights that. In addition, I will be introducing new items that I've randomly printed on ready-made clothes and bags that were in stock and revived as new products.
Both of these are in line with the idea of "not producing waste as much as possible," but I think that at present, both users and creators only have a positive image of these kinds of movements.
Unlike us adults, whose minds are rigidly bound by past experiences and ways of thinking, children see a variety of values as completely normal. With the new releases, we want children to be free to choose what they like, regardless of color, pattern, or shape, without being bound by gender stereotypes. We believe that barriers in this area no longer exist.
By the way, there is a size barrier, but adults are welcome to join if possible.
