JAM

JAM is a printing company in Osaka that specializes in stencil printing such as silkscreen and risograph, and operates a printing workshop and web shop under the concept of "Playing is fun." We take pride in the unique texture that results from misregistration, blurring, uneven color, color mixing, and ink smearing, and use it as a charm that cannot be achieved with ordinary printed materials.

Sumaami Mural Painter

Born in Tokyo, she spent 17 years living in North America from the age of 16. After a stint as a fashion writer in New York, she decided she wanted to work in a field that would bring smiles to people's faces, and became a custom painter of children's rooms. After painting walls for numerous children's rooms and popular kids' shops there, she returned to Japan in 2010 and gave birth to her daughter, Niko. Since then, she has primarily provided murals for private homes, childcare facilities, fashion stores, department stores, and more. She is also passionate about creating public art in public spaces, such as parks, libraries, and ward offices, engaging children and local residents. Since 2015, she has been involved in developing early childhood art education methods for Familia's preschool business, where she teaches art and holds art classes for children in Tokyo.

What is silkscreen printing?

This is a printing technique called "hand printing" or "silkscreen printing," which is also used on Familia's standard product, the Story T-shirt.
Silkscreen printing is a very simple printing method in which holes for ink are created in a mesh plate, some of which are open and some of which are closed, ink is placed on the plate, and the ink is then pushed through the holes using a spatula-like tool called a squeegee to print.
When students reach elementary school, they have the opportunity to make prints in art classes, but they rarely have the opportunity to try silkscreen printing.
The vivid colors and depth can only be achieved by carefully printing each plate by hand. Don't miss this opportunity to experience it for yourself.
