About breastfeeding

Once your baby is born, you will continue to breastfeed or feed him/her formula, day and night.
Not only is it essential for your baby's development, but spending time holding your baby and talking to them is also an important time for physical contact.
This time of year will pass by in the blink of an eye, so make sure to make use of various goods to have fun.

How many times a day do you need to breastfeed?

It is said that frequent feeding is the foundation of breastfeeding.
Newborn babies cannot drink a lot of milk, so feed them frequently without worrying about the intervals between feedings.
Frequent feeding increases hormones, which leads to more milk production.
If you are breastfeeding, your baby should be fed about eight times a day.
If you are mixing breast milk and formula, start with breast milk and add formula if it is not enough.
The amount and frequency of adding milk varies from person to person.
It's a good idea to consult with an obstetrician-gynecologist or pediatrician based on factors such as your baby's weight gain.

Voices of senior mothers

  • I thought that breastfeeding would come naturally once the baby was born. After giving birth, I was still nervous about holding my baby, so I started breastfeeding and struggled to get him to drink properly!
It was difficult for a while until both parent and child became proficient at feeding and drinking, but we got through it by attending a breastfeeding clinic.

  • Breast milk alone wasn't enough, so I added formula. Only mom can breastfeed, but dad can give formula.
He quickly became good at making milk and was feeding the baby from a bottle while talking to him. It was a happy moment for Daddy too.

Use a nursing pillow

Posture is important when breastfeeding.
Even though newborns are still light, holding a baby weighing nearly 3 kg in the correct position to breastfeed is a burden for the mother.
Using a nursing pillow will naturally help you adopt the correct posture, making breastfeeding smoother.
It can also be used when feeding milk from a baby bottle.

  • I didn't buy it when I was preparing for birth because I didn't think it was particularly necessary, but after giving birth, the nursing pillow was always used during breastfeeding instruction during my hospital stay. I wanted to be able to breastfeed in the same environment after I left the hospital, so I quickly purchased it. It's not something I'll use for a long time, but considering how often I'll use it, I'm glad I bought it.
  • A friend who had given birth before me advised me to have one, so I bought one while I was pregnant. When my belly was big, I used it as a backrest on the sofa. After using it for breastfeeding, I also used it to support my baby when he started to sit up.

Do you need a breast pump?

A breast pump is a great help for breastfeeding. If you are unable to breastfeed, you can continue breastfeeding by using a breast pump.
You can purchase these items after you give birth if you need them, but it's reassuring to know about them while you're pregnant.

Reasons why breastfeeding is not possible: ・Returning to work early after giving birth ・Temporary separation of mother and child due to hospitalization or treatment of the baby ・Breast injury that makes breastfeeding difficult until recovery

  • I thought I wouldn't need a breast pump because I'd be with my baby all the time after giving birth. But when I started breastfeeding after giving birth, I wasn't very good at getting him to drink properly at first, and my breasts ended up sore. It was so painful I couldn't breastfeed directly, so for a while I bought a breast pump and fed him with a bottle.
  • I had too much breast milk and my baby couldn't drink it all, and I almost got mastitis several times, but the breast pump saved me. Another benefit was that I could feed the expressed breast milk in a bottle, so I could ask my husband to feed the baby even though I was breastfeeding.

A convenient nursing cover for when you're out and about

This nursing cape is convenient for breastfeeding on the go. It has a wire in the top so you can see your baby while breastfeeding. It's made of 100% cotton, feels soft against the skin, and folds up compactly, so it's great to keep in your mother's bag at all times.

  • I received this as a baby shower gift. When I started going out with my baby, it was extremely useful when there was no private nursing room available or when I had to nurse at a friend's house. I also appreciated that it's made of cotton, which is easy to wash and dries quickly. It was so easy to use that I gave it to a friend when she gave birth.
  • I bought a nursing cover thinking it would be necessary when going out, but I ended up using it at home as well. If I have guests over, the nursing cover allows me to breastfeed without leaving my seat. Even when it's noisy around me, I can still make eye contact with my baby through the wire, which helps him drink calmly.

Should I prepare a baby bottle?

Different mothers (and families) have different preferred breastfeeding styles.
However, you won't know if you will produce breast milk until the baby is actually born.
Even if you want to breastfeed, there may be times when you are unable to breastfeed your baby directly.
In such cases, it is reassuring to have a baby bottle ready that can be used immediately after birth.
We recommend that you prepare a baby bottle as a useful item in case of emergency.
